Theaetetus is an educational toolkit that evaluates how learners reason about information when AI is part of the learning environment.

Education has traditionally measured learning through answers: Can you reproduce the knowledge? Can you solve the problem? Can you produce the right answer?

But when AI can produce convincing answers instantly, the answer itself is no longer enough to reveal how someone thinks. Banning AI preserves traditional assessment, while unrestricted AI can hide the learner's reasoning. We need a way to evaluate thinking in the presence of AI, not only in its absence

Our framework follows an epistemic reasoning loop:

  1. 1Claim
  2. 2Trace
  3. 3Weigh
  4. 4Challenge
  5. 5Calibrate
  6. 6Justify

↺ revise — loops back whenever the evidence changes

You are presented with competing claims and evidence. An AI guide challenges your reasoning, questions your evidence, and introduces counterarguments. Your final answer is only part of the assessment, we evaluate how you reasoned, what evidence you relied on, how you handled uncertainty, and whether you were willing to revise your position.

Our goal is not to teach you what to think, but practice telling
well-supported claims from well-worded ones.
